"Without data, you're just another person with an opinion."
Hi, my name is Nicola and I'm a 3+ years experienced data scientist working for Prima Assicurazioni.
I've always had a passion for logic and math from a young age and enjoyed solving puzzles. My
critical thinking and problem solving skills still help me face and
overcome new data challenges, especially when logic plays a key role in it and I can experiment
different approaches.
Since I joined Prima, my expertise has focused on
insurance data, both structured and unstructured, but I've also being dealing
with biochemical, physical, financial and banking data.
As someone who is passionate about data, I have a strong conviction in the advancement of
scientific knowledge,
and I thoroughly enjoy being introduced to the latest technologies. I enjoy brainstorming creative
solutions and tend to have an analytical,
confident, and ambitious mindset. I am accustomed to spending extended periods of time alone,
engaging in introspective thinking.
I'm very logical and rational. Basically, I am an
Intellectual (INTJ).
education and milestones
2023-Present: senior data scientist
In my role at Prima, I am an part of the Pricing and Underwriting team. My primary responsibility is to ensure the creation of fair and accurate tariffs for our clients.
Leveraging my expertise in statistical modelling, I contribute to the development of comprehensive and competitive insurance pricing models that reflect the risk of each customer.
With my attention to detail, analytical skills, and sound judgment, I strive to maintain our commitment to fairness and accuracy in determining premiums.
2022-2023: data scientist
During my time at ION Analytics, I have been involved in automating
repetitive human tasks by constructing and training NLP models
that can identify specific entities of corporate interest from texts.
Additionally, I have established and continue to maintain a well-structured
People's Database through the collection, transformation, and ingestion of data.
Finally, I generate periodic visual and numerical reports
that are presented to the executive team.
2021-2022: data science researcher
In June 2021, I started working with the computer science team at the Catholic
University of Brescia after
winning a research grant.I conducted research with the
aim of mitigating
Bias and ensuring Fairness in supervised machine learning models. As a result of
this work, a research paper
was published. In addition, I've also created a fully explainable regression
model capable of
determining the ease of synthesizing some drugs, to be inserted in a biochemical
pipeline.
2018-2020: Master's degree in physics (data science)
In December 2020, I completed my master's degree in Physics (curriculum in Data
Science) at the
Catholic University of Brescia and received a grade of
110L/110.
In particular, for the thesis, I built a deep learning model able to predict
sub-atomic particles' trajectories following a proton-proton collision.
2015-2018: Bachelor's degree in mathematics
In September 2018, I completed my bachelor's degree in Mathematics at the
Catholic University of Brescia (IT) and received a grade
of 110L/110.
In these years, I deepened my logical-mathematical and statistical knowledge and
started to code in Python.
